(2019) ED 427/527: Technology-Based Instructional Strategies

A hybrid course that meets approximately 6-7 times a semester. It is primarily computer-lab/inquiry-based. It is a class primarily for graduate students in the secondary and collaborative alternative certification programs. However, students in the undergraduate FCS, physical education, and foreign language certification programs take the class, as well. Flipped Learning is an innovative teaching and learning strategy that is practiced in this course. The students watch pre-class videos and read selected passages from the text to prepare for hands-on activities that apply course strategies. Students learn to use a multitude of technologies that have applications for their future classrooms. One of the large projects that students work on during the class is a blog. See a sample of a student blog! The students also participate in a field trip to a local school where they discuss technology-rich classrooms and complete an assignment on what they would buy if they were ever awarded classroom money.
